Our three-night Wilpattu safari camping experience is designed for travellers who want to explore both the park’s birdlife and its larger mammals. With six guided game drives over four days, you have time to give each interest proper attention.

Birdwatching often calls for a slower pace, frequent stops and attention to calls and movement in the trees. Looking for leopards and sloth bears can call for a different route and approach. Trying to do both on every drive may mean missing what matters most to you. On this stay, you can choose to spend a couple of safaris focusing on birds and use the remaining drives to look for leopards, bears and other mammals. Your guide can adjust that balance around your interests and conditions in the park.

Between drives, return to Wilpattu Safari Camp for meals and time to rest. The camp sits just outside the national park boundary beside the park gate, giving you a convenient base for your morning and evening safaris. Wildlife remains unpredictable, and no particular sighting is guaranteed.

Day 01: Arrive and explore the park

• 12 noon — Meet our crew at the Wilpattu National Park entrance. We will take you the short distance to Wilpattu Safari Camp, just outside the park boundary.
• Lunch at camp before your first drive.
• Evening guided game drive. Begin exploring Wilpattu with your guide. This first safari is an opportunity to become familiar with the park and discuss what you most hope to focus on during your stay.
• Dinner and overnight stay at camp.

Day 02: Birdlife and larger mammals

• Early morning guided game drive. You might choose to devote this drive to birdwatching, taking time to stop, listen and observe with your guide.
• Return to camp for breakfast and time at leisure.
• Evening guided game drive. Shift the focus towards leopards, sloth bears and other mammals as you explore suitable areas of the park.
• Dinner and overnight stay at camp.

Day 03: Continue your chosen safari focus

• Early morning guided game drive. A second bird-focused safari gives you more time with the species and habitats that interest you. If mammals are your priority, your guide can plan the drive accordingly.
• Return to camp for breakfast and time at leisure.
• Evening guided game drive. Spend another afternoon looking for larger mammals, while remaining open to whatever wildlife you encounter along the way.
• Dinner and overnight stay at camp.

Day 04: Final safari and departure

• Breakfast at camp.
• Morning guided game drive. Use your final drive to revisit an area of interest or focus on the wildlife you are still hoping to see, guided by the conditions on the day.
• Return to camp, then transfer to the park gate for checkout.

Cancellation Policy

• Cancelled by you, with a notice coming to us less than 45 days prior to arrival date - There will be no refund for you.
• Cancelled by you, with a notice coming to us more than 45 days prior to arrival date - 80% of the total value will be refunded to you.
• No show - There will be no refund for you.
• None refundable fee - 20% of the total value
